主题:Going global – enhancing ICC via the Internet
The worldwide interrelationship between economies and cultures, the digitalization of modern information and communication technologies, and the tendency towards globalization mean that foreign language educators and learners will have to increasingly have intercultural encounters both physically and virtually. In China, foreign language education, especially at tertiary level, has to take actions to face this challenge.
This talk will first introduce some key constructs relating to the area of intercultural communication. Then it will focus on the goal of foreign language education in response to the promotion of ICC in language syllabuses. Byram’s ICC model will be examined in comparison with other models. The mainstream application of Internet technologies in language programmes in Europe and North America will be reviewed based on two recent edited books collecting a wide range of empirical research. Finally, some important issues regarding its adaptation in Chinese contexts will be discussed.
