讲座题目:"Sojourner Adjustment: Integrating Overseas Students into UK universities"
内容简介:While the difficulties that some Chinese students have integrating and performing academically at UK universities are certainly to do with problems of language acquisition, cultural adjustment and academic skills, the phenomenon of 'the sojourner' identified by Siu (1953) provides a fascinating insight into the psychological and sociological features underpinning these difficulties. I will explore how sojourner adjustment theory has been applied to international students and will outline and evaluate some of the ways in which UK universities have tried to create environments in which international students can be socialised and acculturated into UK university culture.
